Randomness

A random, yet most needed weekend full of nothingness (ahh pure bliss). However, I'm pretty sure my weekend started mid-week, which is when I started to check out. It all started with the movie. We rarely watch movies during the weekdays. The movie you wonder? Edward Scissor Hands - classic.

We also endured those blasted thunderstorms the dogs hate but I love. Thus the reason for my next pictures. Look at the picture below looks like a usual closet but look very closely- see anything?
Here is a closer look...

And one more because I liked this one.
Yeah, Dixie prefers to be in the most inner corner of the house during thunderstorms. She prefers the either bathrooms but both doors were shut so she settled with the closet. A corner of a closet hidden by clothes. You know because clothes are pretty much the equivalent to protective armor.

Since Saturday was rainy and drab we decided to visit some type of indoor activity. So I did some googling and we came across the aquarium.
Here are pictures of sea horses. I have never seen sea horses before - they were quite enchanting.

Da dum... da dum... da dum...

What I've been up to...

I be JAMMIN'

My S-I-L Andrea taught me how to jam and I got the bug. I didn't realize it could be fun - well if you're not doing it alone. We started with the raspberry jam then we went and picked apricots and made apricot pineapple jam. Next on my list... tomatoes and pear sauce.

**By the way I know I've been lacking on the posts so you may see quite a bit today**

Did You Know...

So today, I was talking to a co worker who was asking me about my plans for the weekend. I told her we were going to a concert she told me she was going to a rodeo. (I'll admit it - and sorry Steph- but I've never seen what was so appealing about rodeos). She then told me her niece and nephew are mutton busting. I laughed then asked, "What is that?" She said it's when children ride on a sheep, similar to a rodeo. I had no idea people even did that! Did you?

My terrible, horrible, no good, very bad morning!

So this morning I took the dogs out for their usual morning walk when a man with his dog came jogging along...
You see the pavement at the bottom of the picture? Well that is where I was standing when Sydney and Dixie simultaneously pulled and I was swept completely off my feet (not in a good way) and I was pulled all the way to the street. I originally fell to my knees when Syd looked over her shoulder at me with some concern; she saw that I was okay and kept pulling thus I went from my knees to being completely horizontal sliding on the grass (The sprinklers were just on so the grass was slippery thus the reason I could not get any traction to stop the dogs). I looked like a batter sliding from 3rd to home plate. Finally right at the edge I dug my foot into the ground to stop them and it worked. Mean while, the other dog was perfectly well-behaved and the jogger was uncertain what to do so I just smiled held my head high and said "It's okay keep going." But internally I was MORTIFIED!! I was laughing and yelling at the dogs all at the same time - I was imagining what this must look like - really that stuff only happens in the movies/cartoons.
Also did I mention I was in my work clothes too?
Anyway, my morning did not start off on the right foot - in fact it didn't start out on any! Thus my horrible, terrible, no good, very bad morning! (BTW this is the title to one of my favorite children's book: Alexander and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day by Judith Viorst.)

Folks Visit

My parents came to visit last week to see our house and spend some time with us. They were finally able to stay with us instead of a hotel now that we have the room! Here we are on our front porch.

Brad and I in our Sunday best.
During my parent's trip we celebrated my mom's birthday/house warming BBQ. We had family and friends all over to celebrate.

The Alexanders.

Trent and Baby J.

I have no clue what she is doing.

My cute little niece Miss M.
Andrea and Robert.
Ryan and Bethany

Boys - I had no idea our stairs were going to be so entertaining.

The "Cooks"

I bought these flowers for my mom for her birthday and I thought they were pretty so I took a picture.

While we were getting ready for the BBQ Sydney came trotting up the stairs looking like this. My mom gave her the cool whip container. We are pretty sure it was killing her that there was food so close by but her tongue couldn't reach it.

When my dad got here he went right to work. The next pictures are the things my dad repaired or did for our home.
Here is Sydney - she liked to be right next to my dad - she really likes him.
Here is my dad working on his vacation.

He put this picture up for us on our tile fire place wall.

He went through the house and patched and repainted spots.

When we moved in, there was a huge white patch next to our painting so my dad fixed that too.

Another sign my dad hung for us.

He put this cabinet in our bathroom.

Our New Additions

We are now proud owners of gold fish! I had a bridal shower at my house where the host had - for decoration sake -a bowl of fish. Well, I could not just let them die so now we have fish. Also the one little guy grew on me - I named him Nemo because his left fin is very small and practically useless. The other two are named Fry and Leela.

Thought for Thursday

“I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is the moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - victorious”

I'll Admit It....

I am sad.

I could watch him for hours. I remember one summer my friends and I watched his Thriller video over and over again in hopes of learning the choreography - which by the way I'm not embarrassed by because who hasn't done that? So...

Dear King of Pop,
I never knew you but the glimpses you gave us in your music and dance (and also the Jackson 5 Story on VH1). I think you lived a constant internal struggle of hell. Thank you for sharing your talent for influencing the music industry in a good way - pure skill. I will miss you.

Sincerely,

The white girl who always wished she could dance like a black girl.

Fourth of July Weekend

We kicked off the 4th of July weekend in Provo at the Freedom Days Parade and Festival. (Beware many meaningless pictures in this post - I have a thing for parades)

Then we headed out for an afternoon in American Fork Canyon for a picnic and a swim in the Provo River.
Here is Dixie "navigating" as you can tell she takes her job very very seriously.

The canyon was absolutely beautiful.

I love this one of Syd.

This deer was just off the side of the road, unfortunately I didn't take the picture fast enough and we got mooned.

Our picnic - we feasted on (and I know you will be jealous of this) pb&j sandwiches, apples, and chocolate chip cookies.

Then Sunday night we finished off a most-definitely-needed 3 day weekend with a small BBQ and the movie Hot Rod. (Which, bytheway, Brad and Chris could quote the WHOLE movie).
